Fall 2025 Tutor Applications ARE NOW OPEN!
Interested in being a STAIR Tutor?
STAIR’s Tutoring Program is a semester-based program providing free one-on-one reading tutoring for 2nd and 3rd graders in New Orleans. Tutors are matched with a student for virtual or in-person sessions based on availability.
STAIR offers both In-Person Tutoring and Virtual Tutoring Mondays through Thursdays at either 4:30 or 5:30 p.m. Tutors must provide availability for at least one day (M-Th) at these times. All curriculum and trainings are provided, and no prior tutoring experience is required. Tutors must be 18+ and pass a background check.
In person tutors can choose to tutor afterschool at one of the following sites:
Audubon Charter - Gentilly
Audubon Charter - Uptown
Morris Jeff Community School
YACS Lawrence D. Crocker
Martin Berhman Elementary
For virtual tutoring, tutors will need access to the internet and a desktop computer, laptop, iPad, or tablet with a camera, and must live within the greater New Orleans area to participate.
Fall 2025 STAIR Semester will start September 22 and end December 1.
Interested in being a STAIR Substitute Tutor?
If you would like to volunteer with STAIR, but have limited time for weekly tutoring, we have the option for you to be a Substitute Tutor! With this volunteer position, we will notify you if one of our STAIR Tutors is not able to attend a tutoring session, and you can do the lesson with their student.
If you are interested in substitute tutoring, please fill out an application. Substitute Tutor applications remain open all semester!
For more information, please contact STAIR at program@stairnola.org or 504.899.0820. If no one answers, please call or text us on our Office Cell at 504.202.8187
“I’m really happy I decided to volunteer for the STAIR program. I got to meet and befriend a very sweet, fun, and smart 2nd grader who I am going to miss meeting with once a week. Thank you for this opportunity!”
