Frequently Asked Questions: Parents

What does my child receive from the program?

Students in the STAIR program receive:

  • 1 hour of one-on-one tutoring once a week

  • Tutoring Extension Activities

  • A STAIR Writing Journal

  • Read Aloud Videos via the STAIR YouTube Channel

How long is the STAIR program? Can my child participate next term?

The STAIR program is 10 weeks long, and students may reapply for another term after completion if they are placed in Units 1-3.

Once students complete Unit 4, they have officially graduated from STAIR!

Who is eligible for in-person tutoring sessions? Who is eligible for virtual tutoring?

Students who attend one of our partner schools (Audubon Uptown, Audubon Gentilly, Morris Jeff, Crocker, and Martin Behrman) are eligible for in-person tutoring. Since tutoring happens right after school, our program falls under the after-school programming at that school, meaning students from other schools are usually not eligible to attend. On the other hand, any student in the 2nd and 3rd grade in the Greater New Orleans area is eligible to participate in virtual tutoring — we just ask that parents are able to come to our Uptown office (1535 State St.) to pick up their student’s box.

I would like to know more about the STAIR policies and procedures.  How can I get more information about STAIR?

At the beginning of the STAIR term, we will go over our program procedures and policies with all parents. We will send weekly newsletters with information on each tutoring week. If there is anything else you need clarification on, please feel free to email us at program@stairnola.org with any questions or concerns.

Thank you!
