STAIR Tutoring is a 10-week long, semester-based afterschool program that offers free reading tutoring for 2nd and 3rd graders in New Orleans. STAIR offers both In-Person Tutoring and Virtual Tutoring Mondays through Thursdays at either 4:30 or 5:30 p.m. Tutoring lasts 1 hour.
*In-person students must be enrolled at the in-person school site. At this time our in-person sites include:

During the program, STAIR students will receive:
One-on-one, 60 minute virtual or in-person tutoring sessions once a week
10 books to help build your child’s home library
A creative writing journal with weekly assignments
ATTENDANCE POLICY:
3 late sessions = 1 unexcused absence.
If an absence is not communicated to your tutor/parent within 3 hours to your session start, it will be counted as an unexcused absence.
2 unexcused absences may result in release from the program.
All sessions will end at the stated end time regardless of how late the student/tutor is.
Our attendance policy aims to respect the time of our volunteers, and make sure our students receive the fullness of the STAIR program.
To be considered for STAIR’s Fall 2025 Program, a child must meet the following requirements:
Enrolled in 2nd or 3rd grade in a public school for the 2025-2026 school year

“STAIR has positively impacted my daughter! She enjoys reading independently, and her confidence in her reading ability has certainly increased! I am very grateful for the STAIR program and all of the staff and volunteers who work diligently for our students!”
