STAIR in Alabama

Start The Adventure In Reading (STAIR) began as a mission of the Independent Presbyterian Church in October 2000 with 28 volunteers serving 12 students. In 2009-2010, with the help of nearly 130 volunteers, STAIR of Birmingham served 72 students.

Current sites include:
Avondale Elementary School at Avondale United Methodist Church—11 children, 19 tutors

Barrett Elementary School at 45th Street Baptist Church—9 children, 12 tutors

Council Elementary School at Greater New Antioch Baptist Church—11 children, 16 tutors

Gibson Elementary School at Independent Presbyterian Church—20 children, 40 tutors

Whatley K-8 School at Independent Presbyterian Church—21 children, 42 tutors
